JEOL ECA-600 MHz instrument: Direct/indirect detect probe, gradient shims, 8-slot auto-sampler, auto-tunable probe (31P to 15N), DEPT, APT, HSQC, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY, ROESY, DOSY, variable temperature, remote-access (inquire).

The facility is used for the following purposes:
a) Routine sample analysis for research groups in the department. Those can be run in fully-automated fashion, and the data files are directly e-mailed to the groups. Each group has a copy of the NMR data-processing software so that data can be worked up off-site and do not require/block instrument time.
b) Complex sample analysis. Those samples require method development/optimization and often overnight runs are necessary. Our group analyzes synthetic carbohydrate mimetics and medium-mass oligosaccharides from natural sources. Our goal is to ascertain the correct structure in each case. For oligosaccharides, NMR is used for establishing the regiochemistry/stereochemistry of the glycosidic linkages and the stereochemical identity of the monosaccharides of which the glycan is composed. A wealth of information can be obtained from NMR experiments and the data analysis often requires days to weeks.
c) Contract work. For interested customers, the facility provides routine sample analysis for a nominal fee. Typical analysis times are 3-5 working days. For rush analysis (next day), higher rates apply. The following rates apply:

A few examples of NMR spectra obtained on the JEOL ECA-600 instrument:

a) H-NMR spectra of 2'-fucosyllactose and monofucosyllacto-N-hexaose-III (PROZYME, Inc., Hayward, CA) with DANTE water suppression. Note that for the heptasaccharide (100 ug total), all seven anomeric protons are visible including the alpha/beta anomeric protons at the reducing end.
b) 1D-TOCSY spectra of 2'-fucosyllactose (PROZYME, Inc., Hayward, CA).
c) NOE difference spectra of 2'-fucosyllactose (PROZYME, Inc., Hayward, CA).
d) Capabilities for other nuclei.
